The Boschkloof Estate and Vineyards

Stellenbosch | Cape Winelands | Western Cape

Boschkloof is a boutique Stellenbosch wine estate known for expressive, site-driven wines that reflect both place and intent. With a strong focus on Syrah and a hands-on approach from vineyard to cellar, Boschkloof has built a reputation for quality, character, and quiet confidence.

Boschkloof was purchased in 1995 and named after the natural ravine, or “kloof”, that runs through the farm. The estate is defined by rolling hills, dramatic mountain backdrops, and soils rich in decomposed granite and koffieklip, creating ideal conditions for premium wine production. While the original vineyards were planted largely to Cape Riesling, the decision was made to replant with cultivars better suited to the terroir, including Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. Today, Boschkloof is best known for its Syrah, particularly the single-vineyard Epilogue, which became the first South African red wine to receive a 98-point score from an internationally acclaimed critic.

A Hands-On, Terroir-Driven Winemaking Approach

At Boschkloof, farming and winemaking are approached with sustainability, patience, and respect for the land. Grapes are handpicked to ensure optimal fruit quality before entering the cellar, where a largely hands-off vinification style allows the vineyard to speak clearly through the wines. The focus is on expressing terroir and a true sense of place, rather than following trends. This philosophy results in timeless wines with personality, balance, and depth, crafted to be enjoyed now or cellared with confidence.
