High Constantia is a boutique wine cellar nestled in the heart of the Constantia Valley, South Africa’s oldest and most historic wine-growing region. The estate’s origins date back to 1693, when the land formed part of a Dutch East India Company outpost and was known as Wittebomen, named for the abundance of silverleaf trees that once covered the property. During the 1800s, High Constantia became a popular stopover on the route between Simonstown and Cape Town, with detailed records preserved in historic visitors’ books, including notes on the wines purchased. At the time, the estate featured elegant buildings set among lush gardens, lawns, and mature trees, reflecting its prominence and reputation.
