Goedverwacht Family Wines
Bonnievale | Robertson Valley | Western Cape
In the heart of the Robertson Valley, beside the Breede River, Goedverwacht is a family-owned wine estate shaped by three generations of the Du Toit family. Here, a deep connection to the land and a thoughtful approach to winemaking come together in wines made to be enjoyed and shared.
Three Generations,
One Family Story
Goedverwacht’s story began with a dream. In the 1960s, civil engineer Gabriël Hendrik du Toit followed his ambition to become a wine farmer, laying the foundations for what would become a lasting family legacy.
His son Jan made his first vintage at Goedverwacht in 1984, continuing the family’s commitment to the estate. Today, Jan and his son Gawie, who joined the business in 2013, carry that tradition forward alongside winemaker Christiaan van Tonder.
Through the generations, the family’s connection to the land has remained at the heart of Goedverwacht, bringing together experience, tradition and a shared passion for making wine.
Shaped by the
Breede River Valley
Goedverwacht’s vineyards stretch across 180 hectares of varied soils and growing conditions in the Robertson Valley. Each vineyard has its own character, with selected sites providing the fruit for the estate’s Great Expectations range.
Careful farming continues into the cellar, where gentle handling, controlled fermentation and considered oak maturation allow the natural character of the grapes to come through.
The result is a diverse collection of wines shaped by the land, the climate and the people who know it best.
